#TIDAL CHROMECAST AUDIO BITPERFECT FULL#
The other services don't break it out this way, instead offering lossy and lossless tiers that give you full access to hi res. Tidal also charges more as you move from CD quality to their more hi res content tiers. Any time I performed menu operations, it would start casting from my iPhone, while my speakers would continue playing the last song queued up to the Chromecast Audio. The other issue with TIdal was that the iPhone app kept "forgetting" it was casting to the Chromecast Audio. I can stream 24/192 stream very easily, so a compression wrapper for this is a solution looking for a problem in my case. It also seems like MQA was invented under the assumption that network bandwidth was going to be a problem for most people, but I have a very fast fiber-optic connection for my home network, and this is not a concern for me. It's not a feature I'm I'm willing to pay for, especially because it seems like most of the industry is anti-MQA, and things are not going in that direction. MQA streamers & DACs on the market are not crazy expensive, but they are at an above entry level price-point. My understanding is that the streamer does an initial unwrapping but then your MQA compliant DAC needs to do the final unwrapping of the MQA compression. System #2: CCA>FX Audio Tube 006 (used as a preamp) > AppJ 6J1 6p1 Mini Tube Amp (flea-watt tube amp) > JBL L19 speakers.ġ.) Tidal - sounds good, decent catalog, but without an MQA compliant DAC you are not able to access the highest resolution audio it has to offer. System #1: CCA> FX Audio Tube 00J (set to unity gain as a buffer) > Kenwood KR5030 (recapped) > JBL Studio 530 speakers / JBL Studio 550p subwoofer. Each has their own dedicated ChromeCast Audio (CCA): Signal chain from there changes depending on which system I'm on. The Chromecast is connected via toslink (bypasses its internal DAC) to the same Modi 3+ and can get up to 24/96 in this configuration. I also cast from my iPhone to Google Chromecast Audio.

I stream from my iPhone hooked up to a Schiit Modi 3+ (not the MIMBY) via lightning/USB using the "camera connection kit", so in this configuration I can handle up to 24/192

Won't be useful to everyone, cause I have some specific requirements re: the google Chromecast Audio that disqualified a few of the services immediately, so i'd call this a "limited review", but anyway.

Thought some people might be interested in a quick rundown. Over the past month I subscribed to trials of Tidal, Quobuz, Amazon, and Apple as a shootout.
